2011 New Cars Below $10,000 MSRP
It's much easier finding a used car for sale under $5,000 than it is to find a new car under $10,000. According to manufacturer data, there are two 2011 model year new cars with a starting base sticker price under $10,000: The 2011 Nissan Versa and the 2011 Hyundai Accent.
Each of these new cars under $10,000 are basic sub-compact new cars with manual transmissions and few frills or available options. Both units have adequate fuel economy, in the high 20's mpg in the city and mid 30's mpg on the highway. Unfortunately, however, these new cars under $10,000 are extremely hard to find on Nissan and Hyundai dealer lots.
Other alternatives are new cars with MSRP's under $12,000. In this category the Chevrolet Aveo stands and the Kia Rio are two sub-compact cars worth mentioning. It is more common than not that a new Chevrolet Aveo or a new Kia Rio has a cash rebate available. Often this rebate is large enough to lower the sales price under $10,000. The 2011 Aveo starts out at $11,965 and the 2011 Rio starts out ar $12,295.
It should be noted that these basic transportation units with high mpg's will start to fly of car dealer lots as the price of gasoline increases. Since we live in a supply and demand marketplace, many new car dealers will price these units above MSRP, the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. So if you are committed to buy a new car with a sales price below $10,000 make sure you have plenty of patience. It may take some time to find one.
