Kia Racing Brings the Optima to the 2012 Detroit Grand Prix
While most people are getting excited about the return of the Grand Prix to Detroit the members of Kia Racing are more excited about the current position of their two Optimas. With only a few days left until the start of the Pirelli World Challenge Championships (PWC) on June 1-3 in Detroit, Kia Racing is primed to earn another victory against its stiff list of competition.
As the rankings currently stand the No. 36 Infinity Audio Optima, driven by Michael Galati, is in fifth place for the Grand Touring Sport category while and teammate Mark Wilkins in 26th as the operator of the No. 38 Infinity Audio Optima. The points these two men have collected has helped propel Kia Racing into fourth place only behind Chevrolet, Ford, and Acura at number one.
Now coming to Detroit for another big time race the team has set their sights high and aim to take the two spots on the podium this weekend. This will be no easy task as the Motor City is home to the Mustangs and Camaros that are also in this event and they are known to handle the street circuits at Belle Isle very well. Then you combine the additional support Ford and Chevrolet will receive from the spectators it simply adds on to the difficulty of this race.
Still, despite this additional pressure both Galati and Wilkins feel that they have enough momentum from their last race to compete and beat out the hometown cars. In fact this may not just be wishful thinking as the Kia Racing team is very confident in driving ability the Kia Optima has on the surface at the Belle Isle track and think it will work in their favor. Only time will tell if this is true and in two days everyone will be able to witness what these two Optimas are bringing to Detroit and if they have enough to lead the pack.
